Higher Ground Studio Visit

Tony and David invited the Gay Art Group to visit the Higher Ground Studio which they offer to a group of artists so that they can create works and continue in their art practice knowing they have affordable studio space and a supportive environment.

The idea behind the studio is, artists each have their individual practice but they also can bounce ideas and get fresh eyes on their works from others in the studio spaces.  Artists apply for any available studio space and Tony and David along with the others already in the space decide on who will be the best fit for the collaborative space.

Artists in Higher Ground Studio are : Oliver Wagner, Orson Heidrich, Neil Tomkins, Victoria Hempstead, Simon Brown, Anthony Hodgkinson, Nadia Hernandez, Thomas Thorby-Lister, Joe Willson & Chanelle Collier.

It was so inspiring to see such a diverse range of artists within the same complex and have them talk about their work and concepts that drive their art.  The practices varied greatly from painting, sculpture, photographic works, textiles and sound scapes.

The visit was also extended by one of the artists, Tom Thorby-Lister taking us to Annandale Galleries to see his current exhibition.
