GAG favourites Mark Wilson and Jeremy Smith both have works in the current Political Pop exhibition and have kindly offered the Group and artist talk about their works
The exhibition reimagines pop art as a weapon for social change, tackling a variety of social issues across existing and new works and (from the artist) is a retrospective of my work from mid 2019 through to now, 2024.The work is inspired by my interest in local and global politics, what is happening in society around me and my lived experiences as a Gay man. I explore street art, graffiti, advertising, and Pop Art aesthetics to challenge conventional narratives, spark social change and encourage personal expression. Political Pop! showcases a body of work that finds a balance between social commentary and self-expression, ensuring the work resonates both on a personal level and as a tool for change
